GMO Shoot

PREPPING FOR SHOOT
I showed my model again my image selection of my iPad. We took a while setting up the projector and making sure we could get the projector in focus as much as possible.

STRUGGLES
When I was showing my model my image inspiration a lot of them were on the back of peoples bodies. He informed me we may have a problem as the night before his house mates drew massive wings on his back with sharpie marker. I looked on his back and you could still see the wings slightly. I started to worry and thought my whole shoot would be ruined but I calmed myself down and added some concealer on his back. It didn't cover it up completely but it wasn't as bad as before. The harsh light from the projector did show it up more than usual.

As I already said most of my images I had planned were going to be on the back however we had to  quickly change it up as the sharpie marks were throwing off the projector image.
Below is the edited pictures and the final out come.

SUCCESSES
The projector worked really well the images came up so clear with the black background it gave the images an eerie feel. Doing images on the front of the body worked out well we were able to get some weird angles.

PHOTOS THAT DIDN'T WORK
When playing around with the different prints, we tried pulling one away and making it small like a label is on food packaging.
This didn't work. The writing was too small and it wasn't as effective as when the writing was big and all over the body.

EDITING THE IMAGES
I picked my favourite images and told my photographer I didn't want much editing done to them but darken up the background and maybe try and remove the sharpie marks on his back if possible. At the end of the shoot i quickly decided I wanted to try and put the skull on the models face. This worked out so well and gave a ghostly feel to the image. However you could still see his pupils a bit so I wanted my photographer to darken them in.

Left Image - Before Editing  / Right Image - After Editing
Darkening the pupil brings the skull face to life. I also really like how the wording of the "Warning may contain GMO's" looks like it's strangling him.

MY THOUGHTS
When the shoot first started I was a little worried they wouldn't turn out good as my original idea had to be changed quickly on the spot because of the sharpie on my models back. The projector worked really well and the images came out clear. The small label image didn't work too well so none of those images made the final cut for me. With projector images it takes the focus of the model and more onto the image, the body is used as a canvas. This worked well the black writing that wasn't on the skin blended well into the background so wasn't off putting.

THE OVERALL EFFECT
The projector worked in my favour and the images came out clear enough to make sense of what they were. If I was to do this photoshoot again I would probably try and find some more labels connected to genetically modified food and maybe try a few with colour as well just to see how the overall mood of the image would change.

WHERE TO GO FROM HERE - I have another photoshoot with the same model based on plastic bags and rubbish waste I want to explore this more before I do the shoot.
